Virginia (38-15, 17-13 ACC) will begin playing the 2022 ACC Baseball Tournament this week at Truist Field in Charlotte. The Cavaliers are looking for their fifth ACC title in the history of the program and the first since the 2011 season. Last year, Virginia went 2-0 up in the pool to advance to the finals before losing to Duke. UVA then made the race to the College World Series impossible despite being No. 3 in the Columbia Regional.
UVA is the No. 5 in Group D of the 2022 ACC Baseball Tournament, and on Wednesday at 3 p.m., Florida State will face No. 9 and Notre Dame No. 4 on Friday at 11 p.m. The team with the best record in the pool will advance to the semi-finals. If the teams are tied at the end of the pool, the first place will go up. In Group D, Notre Dame has a draw.
The Group D winner will face the Group A winner (Virginia Tech No. 1, North Carolina No. 8 or Clemson No. 12) in the singles semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of this match will go to the ACC Championship Game on Sunday at noon.

This will be the first time UVA has played for one of these teams in the 2022 season. In 2021, Virginia lost two of its three games against Tallahasseen Florida State and was taken by Notre Dame of Charlottesville. The Cavaliers avenged their final loss at the 2021 ACC Baseball Championship by beating Notre Dame 14-1 in the pool.
Notre Dame dominated 33-13 in the regular season, including a 16-11 mark in the ACC game, to finish second in the good ACC Atlantic standings. Fighting Irish explored Florida State, Clemson and Wake Forest, but Louisville and Duke took them. Notre Dame lost two of the three games against Miami and one game against Virginia Tech (the other two games in that series were canceled), but won two of the three games in the series against Boston College and Pittsburgh.
Notre Dame is the best team in the ACC with a percentage of the .981 pitch. Fighting Irish has only made 32 mistakes all year. Notre Dame is also second in the ACC in the ERA (4.03), behind Virginia alone, and in the sixth conference in the batting average (.300).
Florida State finished the regular season 32-22 and 15-15 in the ACC, finishing fourth in the Atlantic. The Seminoles won two of their three games in the series against Wake Forest, NC State, Duke, Boston College and Miami, moved to Notre Dame, Louisville and North Carolina, and lost two of three in the series to Georgia Tech and Clemson. .
The Seminoles got a major win in the series two weekends ago, taking two of three against Miami. However, the FSU includes a four-game losing streak in the ACC Tournament, as the Seminoles continued their win over the series against the Hurricanes, losing to Florida and then taking on North Carolina in the final weekend of the regular season.
The Cavaliers are tasked with raising the ACC trophy by the end of the week, but their bet on this tournament goes beyond winning the ACC Championship. Virginia has had very different results this season considering where their games have been played. UVA is 29-5 at the friendly limits of Disharoon Park, but 7-10 at road games. It’s a bubble to be one of the top 16 seeds in the Virginia NCAA Championship and the right to host an NCAA region in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers need to give a solid performance to Charlotte in order to take advantage of their home field to begin their effort to return to the College World Series.
