Small Business Owners Help Businesses Take Action to Ensure LGBTQ + Inclusion

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2022 / CSRwire / – Most small business owners believe it is important to support the LGBTQ + community and take steps to ensure inclusion, according to a new survey released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife.

More than eight out of 10 small business owners (86%) said it was important to offer customers and guests an inclusive culture. Two-thirds (67%) said it was important to make a public statement in favor of the equality and fairness of members of the LGBTQ + community.

“By employing nearly half of the nation’s workforce, small businesses are essential to promoting inclusive workplaces,” said Tom Sullivan, vice president of U.S. Small Business Policy. “The survey shows that small businesses care about LGBTQ + inclusion for their employees, customers and the community, but often lack the broadband or skills to do so. which makes it easier to get them. “

The survey shows that small businesses can help the LGBTQ + community with a variety of actions, such as creating inclusive advertising, having a formal workplace policy that prohibits discrimination based on LGBTQ + status, and donating to organizations that support the LGBTQ + community. more than three out of four felt it was important to take action.

  • % 72 small business owners say they agree to lose customers as a result of supporting the LGBTQ + community.

The LGBT Inclusion Hub for Small Business Foundation of the US Chamber of Commerce provides tools, resources and best practices for inclusion in the workplace, as well as individual expert support on how to build LGBT internal programs and policies.
