NYC Health + Hospitals Announces New Season of Farmers Markets Near Patient Care Areas

The farmers markets run by GrowNYC and Harvest Home make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible to patients, visitors, staff, and the wider community.

New York, NY

NYC Health + Hospitals today launched a new season of farmers markets located in the city’s public hospitals and community health centers. GrowNYC, Harvest Home, Uptown Grand Central and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets are managed by local partner farmers markets that make it easy for anyone in the community to get fresh local fruits and vegetables at affordable prices.

“Healthy food is a medicine that all New Yorkers should have,” he said Eric Adams, Mayor of New York. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of our farmers markets at NYC Health + Hospitals, as well as across the city, and together we will make sure that every New Yorker can get the healthy food they deserve.”

“Fruits and vegetables are essential for a healthy diet and good health,” he said NYC Health + Hospitals Mitchell Katz, MD, President and CEO. “These agricultural markets will make it easier and cheaper for our patients, staff, and communities to eat healthier, and we would not be able to do so without our community partners.”

Various payment options are available to help New Yorkers take advantage of farmers markets and Fresh Food Box sites, including EBT / SNAP, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) coupons.

In addition, GrowNYC offers the Fresh Food Boxes program year-round at NYC Health + Hospitals / Carter. Banks offer seasonal products, below market price, through the ability to buy in partnership. Individuals can register for the program at https://www.grownyc.org/foodbox/UGC
