A torn biceps has temporarily removed Matt Cardona from the battlefield.
Underlined temporary.
“My doctor said the cure is five months,” says Cardona, who was injured in a GCW show last month. “But my goal is three.”
At the start of a memorable summer, Cardona had to undergo surgery for his injury. The NWA was forced to relinquish its world title on Saturday Always Ready pay-per-view — a cruel twist on a show built around it — but still plans to be present in June, July, and August.
“I’m still going to make villages,” said Cardona, who underwent surgery last week. “I’ve been in touch with all the promotions I’ve booked, and all but two bring me in because they know I’m still selling tickets, and I scheduled them with the other two.
“I will not be injured at home. I’m not going to be in the ring, but this isn’t a three-month vacation. I’m just as busy as I am, with my biceps torn. “
In addition to a summer full of appearances, Cardona has already set a return date for the ring. He intends to return in time Wrestling Showcase on September 3, a The tournament also includes Johnny Morrison, Killer Kross, Rich Swann, Tony Nese, Jacob Fatu, Steve Maclin and Tatanka. The newly released parenthesis shows that if Cardona is healthy, he can return to style in this tournament.
“The timing is perfect,” says Cardona, who will face Tatanka in the first round. “I’m training to go back in time. It fits perfectly into that three-month window, and I want my first game to be against Tatanka. It can still go. Seeing him fight makes you think it’s still 1993. And how nice would it be to beat someone who had an action figure? ‘
Until he re-enters the ring, the injury is a temporary fixture on Cardona’s career.
When he became known in the WWE as Zack Ryder, he was struck by lightning in a bottle on his tour of the Indies. He put on a number of tournaments, most notably winning the GCW title last summer (he later took a trip to Disney World to celebrate his self-proclaimed status as “Deathmatch King”) and his most recent campaign. BLACK.
His business owner and skills as an entrepreneur also flourished podcasts and action figures which has increased his popularity. Cardona has brought a different kind of energy to the indie scene, and the biceps injury comes at a very inopportune moment.

“There’s no right time to get hurt, and this is the worst moment for me,” Cardona says. “It simply came to our notice then. Now the road to recovery begins. ”
The injury occurred on May 28 at a GCW show in Las Vegas. Cardona, who was fighting Rich Swann earlier that day in a Pro Wrestling Revolver show, was injured when Blake Christian pulled out of the top rope and collided outside the ring.
“It doesn’t look bad, but I felt it right away,” Cardona says. “I finished the game, and when I got to the back, I raised my elbow to see that my biceps were tangled.
“I needed to get home as soon as possible. I had to miss a show that night, which was bad, and I took a red eye on my way home to Orlando. ‘
The following MRI confirmed Cardona’s fears that she suspected her biceps had been torn.
“I wanted to avoid surgery, but I couldn’t,” Cardona says. “I talked to everyone who had broken their biceps, including the boys who hadn’t had surgery. Everyone was told to have surgery. Some even said they regretted not receiving it. I went to three different doctors, and all three recommended surgery. I wish it didn’t happen, but I’ll get out of it as best I can.
“I’m going to use this and get something out of it. There’s a lot more to this business than just ringing the bell. ”
Always thinking of multiple steps forward, Cardona is ready for a hectic summer. He intends to use this setback as a new motivating factor to raise his career to an even higher altitude.
“I am not trying to prove wrong those who are in doubt. I am trying to prove myself and my believers right, ”says Cardona. “I plan to go back and win Wrestling Showcase Tournament. That’s just the beginning.
“And if I don’t have the doctor’s permission, I’ll have a replacement. Remember, I’m always ready. ‘
