LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Milt Wagner, one of the top ten basketball scorers in his career at the University of Louisville, whose honorary jersey is KFC Yum! The Center has teamed up with the Cardinals men’s basketball team as Director of Player Development and Alumni Relations, led by coach Kenny Payne.

UofL reached the NCAA Final Four (1982, 1983, 1986) and participated in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in all four seasons. He wore a red shirt in the 1984-85 season after breaking a foot in the second game of the season.

Three times the All-Metro Conference selection ranks ninth in career support (432) and 10th in the percentage of free kicks in the career (.814, 413 out of 336). Wagner helped the Cardinals to a 113-32 record, three regular-season Metro Conference championships and two Metro Conference Championship titles. He played 144 games in his career – tied for second place in UofL history – and started the last 111 games he played. He scored 14.8 points and 4.2 assists on the Cards in the 1986 NCAA Championship.
He was a third of Louisville’s “Camden Connection” in the Cardinals’ 1986 championship team, which also included a trio of former Camden (NJ) High School players including Billy Thompson and Kevin Walls. The Wagner Dallas Mavericks were selected in the second round of the 1986 NBA Draft at 35.thhe was generally selected and played professional basketball for 13 years in various professional leagues. He was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1988 NBA Championships, as well as the 1990-91 season of the Miami Heat. He also played abroad for professional teams in Israel, Paris, France, Belgium and Germany.
Following his professional career, Wagner served as basketball operations coordinator for six seasons (2000-06) under coach John Calipari in Memphis and helped the team win 148 wins and six consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2006 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. After being in Memphis, Wagner served as assistant coach for the next eight seasons with coach Tony Barbee, including four years at UTEP (2006-10) and Auburn (2010-14).
Camden, NJ, has recently worked in the Louisville-based private business for six years in new business development including Clark and Riggs in Louisville, a company that offers integrated printing and business solutions.
Wagner graduated with a degree in sports communication from the University of Memphis in 2004. His wife is married to Jann and has two children, Dajuan and Jann. His son Dajuan played basketball in the Memphis (2001-02) before the Cleveland Cavaliers finished sixth in the 2002 NBA Draft.
Reece Gaines, who previously held the position, remains a Cardinals basketball staff member and has gone on to team video operations.
