Inmarsat has presented the first details of the Jet ConneX Evolution Business Aviation Program

LONDON – (BUSINESS THREAD) – Inmarsat today unveiled details of the launch of a major upgrade program that will increase the speed of broadband that offers its Jet ConneX (JX) business aviation solutions. Information on an innovative JX Evolution program was first announced at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Switzerland.

JX Evolution will set an unprecedented new standard for connecting business flights to take advantage of Inmarsat’s global Ka-band satellite network, including improved capabilities for upcoming highly advanced satellites, in addition to its latest partner terminal technology.

Initial tests of the upcoming program have shown speeds of over 130 megabits per second (Mbps) using satellites already in Inmarsat. This allows users to connect even more devices and enjoy the most data-hungry applications, such as high-definition video, without interruption. As an example, it would take 23 seconds to download a high definition movie.

Speeds will rise even more As a result of Inmarsat’s fully funded technology roadmap, seven satellite payloads will enter the Ka-band constellation, bringing the total to 12. Of these, two are the Inmarsat-6, the most sophisticated commercial communications satellite ever built. , which will enter service next year. Then, two payloads will be available in highly elliptical orbit, allowing the world’s only commercial mobile broadband service for higher-latitude and Arctic commercial aircraft, and then three more satellites in geostationary orbit, adding more speed, capacity and resilience.

JX Evolution will also take advantage of the latest advances in Inmarsat’s partner terminals, which are compatible with a wide range of business aircraft, using state-of-the-art technology and lightweight design to optimize performance, reduce costs and facilitate installation and maintenance processes.

Kai Tang, head of Business Aviation at Inmarsat, said: “Inmarsat’s Jet ConneX is considered the gold standard for business aircraft connectivity and its market leadership has only been strengthened since the pandemic, increasing the demand for broadband, fast, reliable and consistent. Inmarsat’s JX Evolution follows our on-demand building philosophy, and the new service plans that will be launched under this program will redefine the concept of premium connectivity.

“Speeds above 130 Mbps are exciting, and customers can expect even greater numbers as we launch more advanced satellites in the coming years. we are the second generation terminals that our partners are currently building to connect with the successful JetWave terminal that is currently being used for JX. ”

JX Evolution will bring a new service plan for JX, which first entered commercial service in November 2016 and has so far been activated on more than 1,150 aircraft. As the main connectivity service for commercial aircraft flights, it offers the same level of reliable, consistent and high-speed broadband that was only available on the ground, supporting a wide range of online activities such as video streaming, live TV, video. calls, large file transfers and VPN.

JX is a linefit option for all major business aircraft manufacturers, including Gulfstream, Bombardier and Dassault. Service Certificates and Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) have been included in all known platforms of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and subsequent maintenance repair and overhaul service providers . (MROs).
