Health Insight provides better and more effective care

Caspar AI technology provides employees with a more complete picture of resident behavior. Even with less FTE, residents get better care.

PALO ALTO, California, June 23, 2022 / PRNewswire / – Tough times for retirement community operators – Pressure on bankers’ financial performance; pressures to attract and retain skilled workers; and pressure from residents and their families to at least maintain the quality of life in the community unless it is improved. Technology can be a key strategy for operators looking for answers to these pains, but they also need a measurable return on investment in technology.

This “perfect storm” is exacerbated in memory care, where residents are unable to respond or respond accurately to staff.

Most of the staff pay attention to the neighbors when they are away from their apartments during the day. However, they spend at least half of their time in their apartments. “Neighbors in memory care may not communicate accurately, so how do we know how to focus staff work on their care?” God Laurie OrlovChief Analyst, Aging and Health Technologies Watch.

So how do you apply Caspar.AI technology to memory storage? “Our patented AI technology is not camera-based, but uses a sophisticated sensor system that provides health knowledge to get better and more efficient attention.” God Ashutosh Saxenapresident and CEO Caspar.AI

Staff efficiencies

Caspar.AI provides action data points to employees: How often does a resident request to check or change a night room? What are the residents ’nighttime sleep and activity patterns? Armed with data (knowledge), community management frequently reduces staff intrusions into residents ’apartments and can focus that time on other, more productive uses. Effects can be direct or indirect:

  • Direct efficiencies: FTEs have been reduced or redirected as a result of fewer resident bed checks, fewer family member consultations, and smarter employee models through resident information.

  • Indirect efficiencies: Employees are better motivated by resident perspectives; the main point of difference with competitors; and better resident care planning.

Employees can see the impact of their work

The data collected provides employees with a more complete picture of resident behavior. Because memory care residents are unable to provide accurate feedback, the data tells staff that they are being given the proper care they need. Indirectly, this improves employee morale – when an employee “hears” from a resident that care plans or medication plans are working, he or she thinks his or her job is more valuable. Memory care residents therefore provide positive “feedback” to employees and, in turn, help reduce the shift of community workers.

As an example, Caspar.AI provided a map of a resident’s walking patterns during the time it was supposed to be relaxing. This approach leads community workers to work with a resident physician to prescribe a better and more effective medication program. The result? More restful nights for residents, a more settled resident during the day and an informed staff.

Better Care Plans

Caspar.AI technology also provides physicians with data that can help shape residents’ medication plans. They are able to obtain information about possible UTIs and sleep disorders. This nightly information is not otherwise available without the Caspar system. Neighbors ’families can get more information about their loved ones; when community staff can pass on information to residents ’families, the number of incoming calls from family members is reduced.

Release an FTEWith Caspar’s health information, community management earns seven-hour staff time per month for each resident.

Bottom line

The implementation of the Caspar.AI system in a memory protection community must satisfy the interests of all parties:

  • Release an FTE . Community management earns seven hours of staff time per month for each resident. This is about FTE 1 in a community of 30 apartments – Employees can divert their time to other jobs.

  • Improving Employee Morale. Staff now have neighbors who “talk” about the challenges of the night through data. This allows employees to better understand the needs of each neighbor and feel valued for their work.

  • Better Care Planning. Doctors gain more knowledge about their patients so that they can better target their medication plans.

  • Increase sales. The sales manager has a unique sales proposal to offer to the families of the residents.

Let Caspar.AI tell a customer more.

“With Caspar.AI, we have reduced staff night visits. This has increased our operational efficiency and improved the care of ETA residents, both at the same time.” He said Kelly FieldhouseDirector of Memory Care, Bristol Glen United Methodist Community, Newton, NJ.
