DDW22: SonarMD Data Shows Hidden Mental Health Impact on IBD Costs, Company Expands Access to Support Services

CHICAGO – (BUSINESS THREAD) – SonarMD, the leading intestinal health care coordination company, will present a summary of Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2022 in 2022, highlighting the importance of proactive screening for mental health conditions in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). SonarMD is using this data to identify and connect IBD patients to services that promote emotional well-being and healthy sleep through new partnerships with Happy and Rise Science.

SonarMD will present a summary at DDW

Mental health problems, such as emotional distress and poor sleep, can worsen IBD outcomes and increase the risk of hospitalization and surgery, increasing the cost of care. But patients with these comorbidities cannot be fully identified with the data of back claims alone, according to new data being presented in the DDW.

SonarMD data show that there has been a nearly 40% increase in IBD patients with a positive screening score for depression but no IBD patients with a mental health claim in their history compared to the general IBD population. That is, the cost increase is almost double the cost of retrospective claims only.

“Mental health can have a profound effect on the evolution of the disease in patients with chronic digestive disease, but the challenges are often overlooked,” said Lawrence Kosinski, MD, MBA, lead author of abstracts and CEO and CEO of Sonar®. “We need to be proactive in examining patients and connecting with clinically relevant services that meet their needs before they become a health emergency.”

In addition to the data being presented at DDW, SonarMD has previously shown that care costs are 26% higher for IBD patients with claims related to sleep disorders.

The SonarMD platform combines data from multi-payer claims, clinical information, and measures of patient-reported outcomes, including Patient Health Survey Score 2 (PHQ-2) depression screening scores to better identify patients who would benefit from additional support services.

SonarMD is spread to care for the whole person

RISE is an app that uses sleep and circadian science and phone data to help patients improve sleep and manage energy, and Happy is a pioneering “frictionless mental health” service that uses a proactive model of commitment to improving patients ’emotional well-being. and reducing barriers to care. SonarMD will present these holistic services to the first patient groups this spring. This presentation will also establish the integration of portable devices for proper remote monitoring, contributing to future diets and increases in nutrition and beyond.

“I am pleased to see that Sonar® offers more holistic tools and services in the management of care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease,” said Nadeem Baig, MD, vice president of Allied Digestive Health and chief medical officer of the Allied Health Management Services Organization. . “Sonar® is an extension of our practice, so these new services increase the ability to manage the health and well-being of patients with chronic illnesses.”
